Could History Repeat Itself?

James Schlesinger was a CIA director who later, as Defence Secretary, told Army chiefs to ignore Nixon if he ordered a nuclear strike

nixon

James Schlesinger , who has died at age 85 in 2014, was a hardline American Secretary of Defense from 1973 to 1975 under Presidents Nixon and Ford ; he subsequently became the country’s first Secretary of Energy, under President Carter.

During Nixon’s last days in the White House at the height of the Watergate crisis, when some were doubting the President’s mental stability, Schlesinger reportedly instructed the Joint Chiefs of Staff to check with him before carrying out any of Nixon’s orders regarding nuclear weapons. He also drew up contingency plans for an emergency military deployment in the event of an impeached Nixon refusing to step down.

Nixon was drinking heavily and becoming erratic. Trump doesn’t drink, but erratic, he takes that to a whole new level.

Worse case scenario: Trump is getting impeached and falling down, politically and mentally. He thinks if he is going to go out, he is going to go out in a big way, with a very big bang. Nuke North Korea. His secretaries of defense and state will have to go unconstitutional and take over all control of nuclear weapons. Just as Mr. Schlesinger did back in 1974.

Vladimir Putin: Myth versus Reality

Russian President Vladimir Putin is revered by his citizens, he is viewed as a strong and sly leader. He comes across as a karate black belt ex-super spy who will lead the Motherland to greatness and prosperity.  It is debatable if this is truly the case. He does appear to be pretty tough.

Lots of images of him swimming and riding horses shirtless. An outdoors-man with no fear. Very athletic and fit. Mr. Putin riding a Siberian brown bear is one of the most popular concocted images.

Julian Assange coming up for air

Julian Paul Assange, born Julian Paul Hawkins, 3 July 1971 is an Australian computer programmer, publisher and journalist. He is editor-in-chief of the organisation WikiLeaks, which he founded in 2006. He has won numerous accolades for journalism, including the Sam Adams Award and Martha Gellhorn Prize for Journalism.
Assange founded WikiLeaks in 2006, but came to global prominence in 2010, when WikiLeaks published a series of leaks provided by Chelsea Manning. These leaks included the Collateral Murder video (April 2010), the Afghanistan war logs (July 2010), the Iraq war logs (October 2010), and CableGate (November 2010). Following the 2010 leaks, the United States government launched a criminal investigation into WikiLeaks and asked allied nations for assistance. In November 2010, a request was made for Assange’s extradition to Sweden, where he had been questioned months earlier over allegations of sexual assault and rape. Assange continued to deny the allegations, and expressed concern that he would be extradited from Sweden to the United States because of his perceived role in publishing secret American documents. Assange surrendered himself to UK police on 7 December 2010, and was held for ten days in solitary confinement before being released on bail. He sought and was granted asylum by Ecuador in August 2012. He has since remained in the Embassy of Ecuador in London, and is unable to leave without being arrested for breaching his bail conditions.

Speaking from the Embassy

ajulie4

On 16 August 2012, Foreign Minister Patiño announced that Ecuador was granting Assange political asylum because of the threat represented by the United States secret investigation against him and several calls for assassination from many American politicians. In its formal statement, Ecuador reasoned that “as a consequence of [Assange’s] determined defense to freedom of expression and freedom of press… in any given moment, a situation may come where his life, safety or personal integrity will be in danger”. Latin American states expressed support for Ecuador. Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa confirmed on 18 August that Assange could stay at the embassy indefinitely, and the following day Assange gave his first speech from the balcony. Assange’s supporters forfeited £293,500 in bail and sureties. His home since then has been an office converted into a studio apartment, equipped with a bed, telephone, sun lamp, computer, shower, treadmill, and kitchenette.

ajulie6

Due to the assassination threats Assange doesn’t go out on the embassy balconies and stays away from windows. Nor does he venture to the roof for fresh air.

Recently emerged photos taken by British intelligence seems to show Assange’s head emerging from a chimney from a nearby building. How he moved from the embassy to that building is unknown.

ajulie (1)

ajulie (2)

The fresh air must be exhilarating. Getting through the chimney however must be quite stuffy.

Another photo snapped by a lucky paparazzi shows Assange sticking his head out of a manhole on a street next to the embassy. Conjecture has it that Assange must have a network of sewer tunnels available to him to move around below the streets of London. If the Ecuadorians ever change their minds about allowing him asylum Julian could make a break for it by fleeing through the sewers. With help he could make it to Russia, where he could move in with Edward Snowden.

ajulie3

Assange claims he is all about transparency by governments. A true democrat who is fighting for the people. According to traitors like Assange and Snowden the government should never conceal and have secrets. Everything should be wide open. Even in time of war.

Furthermore,  if Assange is so committed to truth and transparency, why doesn’t he turn himself in to authorities and face the music. If he is truthfully innocent he has nothing to fear,  so why is he holed up in the Ecuadorian Embassy like a cornered rat?

Donald Trump: I would be honoured to meet Kim Jong-un

Donald Trump is the by far the most unpredictable President ever. You never know where he is going to go.  These two have great haircuts.

kim

US President Donald Trump has said he would be “honoured” to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, in the right circumstances.

“If it would be appropriate for me to meet with him, I would – absolutely. I would be honoured to do it,” he told news organisation Bloomberg on Monday.

The previous day he described Mr Kim as a “pretty smart cookie”.

The comments come amid escalating tensions over North Korea’s nuclear programme.

The White House issued a statement following Mr Trump’s remarks, saying North Korea would need to meet many conditions before any meeting between the two leaders could take place.

Spokesman Sean Spicer said Washington wanted to see the North end its provocative behaviour immediately.

“Clearly conditions are not there right now,” he added.

In Sunday’s interview with CBS, President Trump noted Mr Kim had assumed power at a young age, despite dealing with “some very tough people”.

He said he had “no idea” whether Mr Kim was sane.

The North Korean leader had his uncle executed two years after he came to power, and is suspected of ordering the recent killing of his half-brother.

President Trump, asked what he made of the North Korean leader, told CBS: “People are saying: ‘Is he sane?’ I have no idea… but he was a young man of 26 or 27… when his father died. He’s dealing with obviously very tough people, in particular the generals and others.

“And at a very young age, he was able to assume power. A lot of people, I’m sure, tried to take that power away, whether it was his uncle or anybody else. And he was able to do it. So obviously, he’s a pretty smart cookie.”

Where are the Carriers?

carrier

When word of a crisis breaks out in Washington, it’s no accident that
the first question that comes to everyone’s lips is:
‘Where’s the nearest carrier?
‘”

President Bill Clinton
March 12, 1993
aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt

With all the Sabre rattling going on between North Korea and the United States, Globalsecurity.org keeps up to date on where the big U.S. super-carriers are. North Korea said they will sink the USS Carl Vinson when it arrives in the Sea of Japan. Good luck. Their puny obsolete fighters would be decimated by U.S. aircraft on the carrier and land based in South Korea and Japan. The North Korean navy is a joke. Basically patrol boats and rust bucket antique submarines.

So where are the carriers?

North Korea: Proof that Insanity is Hereditary

North Korea is the first and only communist totalitarian family dynasty the world has seen.  I wonder what Marx and Lenin would think of this.  Sort of goes against the idea of equality and justice for all.

kim-jong-un-3-comb_1815141i

The Kim dynasty, officially called Mount Paektu Bloodline, is a three-generation lineage of North Korean leadership descending from the country’s first leader, Kim Il-sung, in 1948. Kim came to rule the North after the end of Japanese control in 1945 split the region. He began the Korean War in 1950 in an attempt to reunify the peninsula. Kim developed a cult of personality closely tied to their state philosophy of Juche, which was passed on to his successors: his son Kim Jong-il and grandson Kim Jong-un.
In 2013, Clause 2 of Article 10 of the new edited Ten Fundamental Principles of the Korean Workers’ Party states that the party and revolution must be carried “eternally” by the “Baekdu bloodline”.

The Mother of All Bombs

The Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) GBU-57A/B is a U.S. Air Force massive, precision-guided, 30,000-pound (13,608 kg) “bunker buster” bomb.  This is substantially larger than the deepest penetrating bunker busters previously available, the 5,000-pound (2,268 kg) GBU-28 and GBU-37.

The U.S. Air Force has no specific military requirement for an ultra-large bomb, but it does have a concept for a collection of massively sized penetrator and blast weapons, the so-called “Big BLU” collection, which includes the MOAB (Massive Ordnance Air Burst) bomb. Development of the MOP is now underway at the Air Force Research Laboratory, Munitions Directorate, Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. Design and testing work is also being performed by Boeing. It is intended that the bomb will be deployed on the B-2 bomber, and will be guided by the use of GPS.

A test release from a B-52 bomber

The push for accelerated deployment is due to the increased perceived nuclear threats from Iran and North Korea. It’s believed that many of their nuclear programs could be in development underground, below levels of current bunker-busting bombs’ range. The Pentagon intends the rapid deployment to send a message that the United States is tweaking strategies to address new threats.

The Air Force took delivery of 20 bombs, designed to be delivered by the B-2 bomber, in September 2011. In February 2012, Congress approved $81.6 million to further develop and improve the weapon.

On 25 June 2010, USAF Lt. Gen. Phillip Breedlove said that the Next-generation Penetrator Munition should be about a third the size of the Massive Ordnance Penetrator so it could be carried by affordable aircraft.  In December 2010, the USAF had a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA) for the Next Generation Penetrator (NGP).

Global Strike Command has indicated that one of the objectives for the Next-Generation Bomber is for it to carry a weapon with the effects of the Massive Ordnance Penetrator. This would either be with the same weapon or a smaller weapon that uses rocket power to reach sufficient speed to match the penetrating power of the larger weapon.

Israel doesn’t have military jets big enough to carry the MOP.  But they have been working on their own penetrators which are much smaller than MOP, and therefore could be carried by Israel’s F-15I Strike Eagles and Jericho missiles.  As one official reported, “You would be surprised at their accuracy” and that the high explosives involved is a special mix of chemical explosives that could conceivably penetrate the Iranian fortifications.

US Intelligence Agency that Sees the Targets Close-Up

The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) is both a combat support agency, under the United States Department of Defense, and an intelligence agency of the United States Intelligence Community, with the primary mission of collecting, analyzing, and distributing geospatial intelligence (GEOINT) in support of national security. NGA was known as the National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA) until 2003.

NGA headquarters is located at Fort Belvoir in Springfield, Virginia, and operates major facilities in the St. Louis, Missouri area, as well as support and liaison offices worldwide. The NGA campus, at 2.3 million square feet (214,000 m2), is the third-largest government building in the Washington metropolitan area after The Pentagon and the Ronald Reagan Building.

In addition to using GEOINT for U.S. military and intelligence efforts, the NGA provides assistance during natural and man-made disasters, and security planning for major events such as the Olympic Games.

national_geospatial-intelligence_agency_2013

NGA Campus East is the headquarters of the agency. The building features trapezoidal windows, color-coded interior sections, and is bisected by an atrium that is large enough to hold the Statue of Liberty.

National Imagery and Mapping Agency (NIMA)

NIMA was established on October 1, 1996, by the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1997. The creation of NIMA followed more than a year of study, debate, and planning by the defense, intelligence, and policy-making communities (as well as the Congress) and continuing consultations with customer organizations. The creation of NIMA centralized responsibility for imagery and mapping.

NIMA combined the DMA, the Central Imagery Office (CIO), and the Defense Dissemination Program Office (DDPO) in their entirety, and the mission and functions of the NPIC. Also merged into NIMA were the imagery exploitation, dissemination, and processing elements of the Defense Intelligence Agency, National Reconnaissance Office, and the Defense Airborne Reconnaissance Office.

NIMA’s creation was clouded by the natural reluctance of cultures to merge and the fear that their respective missions—mapping in support of defense activities versus intelligence production, principally in support of national policymakers—would be subordinated, each to the other.

NGA

With the enactment of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2004 on November 24, 2003, NIMA was renamed NGA to better reflect its primary mission in the area of GEOINT. As a part of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process, all major Washington, D.C.-area NGA facilities, including those in Bethesda, Maryland; Reston, Virginia; and Washington, D.C., would be consolidated at a new facility at the Fort Belvoir proving grounds. This new facility, called the NGA Campus East houses several thousand people and is situated on the former Engineer Proving Ground site near Fort Belvoir. NGA facilities in St. Louis were not affected by the 2005 BRAC process.

The cost of the new center, as of March 2009, was expected to be $2.4 billion. The center’s campus is approximately 2,400,000 square feet (220,000 m2) and was completed in September 2011.

nga2

NGA employs professionals in aeronautical analysis, cartography, geospatial analysis, imagery analysis, marine analysis, the physical sciences, geodesy, computer and telecommunication engineering, and photogrammetry, as well as those in the national security and law enforcement fields.

nga4

The NGA is one segment of the vast United States Intelligence Community.

The United States Intelligence Community (IC) is a federation of 16 separate United States government agencies that work separately and together to conduct intelligence activities considered necessary for the conduct of foreign relations and national security of the United States. Member organizations of the IC include intelligence agencies, military intelligence, and civilian intelligence and analysis offices within federal executive departments. The IC is headed by the Director of National Intelligence (DNI), who reports to the President of the United States.

Among their varied responsibilities, the members of the Community collect and produce foreign and domestic intelligence, contribute to military planning, and perform espionage. The IC was established by Executive Order 12333, signed on December 4, 1981, by U.S. President Ronald Reagan.

Assad gets a Tomahawk smack in the teeth

The US has carried out a missile attack against an air base in Syria in response to a suspected chemical weapons attack on a rebel-held town.

The Pentagon said 59 Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired at 04:40 Syrian time (01:40 GMT) from destroyers in the eastern Mediterranean.

In a televised address, President Donald Trump said the base was the launch point for the chemical attack.

He called on “all civilised nations” to help end the conflict in Syria.

Trump finally did something I agree with. This was a perfect strategic military strike on that brutal dictator Assad. The Russians still back this butcher because they have hardly any allies left in the world. The Russkies do not understand democracy, they never will, so they provide unfaltering allegiance to cutthroat dictators like Assad.
