Scared Sh@#less

The Nightmare’s Fear Factory is a haunted house attraction in Niagara Falls, Canada, and one of the oldest running haunted house in North America. The house has been described as the “scariest and best haunted house attraction” and in case you don’t believe them, the owners of the 30-year old establishment publishes a regularly updated stream of pictures showing terrified visitors shrieking and grimacing with genuine fear. The photos became an internet sensation after they went viral in social media websites.

The house is so frightening that visitors have a ‘safety word’ – Nightmares – which they can utter at any time if they wish to be escorted out. In the last 30 years, about a half-million people have gone through, and many have opted out part-way and had their names added to a public “chicken list”. Over 110,000 people have elected to use the ‘chicken exit’ during the 15-minute tour.

The tour takes from 10 to 15 minutes and is in total darkness, except for small red lights on the floors, walls and ceiling that patrons must follow in order to get through the haunted house. Unlike conventional haunted houses, the Nightmares Fear Factory doesn’t rely primarily on blood and gore in order to induce fear. Rather, there are live actors in scary costumes that come at the patrons out of the darkness and taunt them, scream at them, speak in creepy voices, etc. They have been known to grab, push and pull patrons in order to get a reaction. There are also scary sounds like growls, eerie music, spooky voices, yelling, and so forth.

Highlights of the tour include a shaky drawbridge, a claustrophobic tunnel that visitors must crawl through, and a place where it appears that the walls are closing in on the visitors.

The most notable part of the tour is when the visitors, walking in complete darkness (often holding on to each other) suddenly see a sign that reminds them that they are going to die. At this point their pictures are taken and sometimes posted on the Fear Factory’s Flickr account.

After doing some research on what exactly is making these people shit their pants I think I discovered what it is.  It is a hologram type image of a screaming demon that comes out of nowhere.

Baraka film trailer

A film well worth watching.  You will think about this film for days.

Baraka is a 1992 non-narrative film directed by Ron Fricke. The film is often compared to Koyaanisqatsi, the first of the Qatsi films by Godfrey Reggio of which Fricke was cinematographer. Baraka’s subject matter has some similarities—including footage of various landscapes, churches, ruins, religious ceremonies, and cities thrumming with life, filmed using time-lapse photography in order to capture the great pulse of humanity as it flocks and swarms in daily activity.

The title Baraka is a word that means blessing in a multitude of languages.

The movie was filmed at 152 locations in 24 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Nepal, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, and the United States. It contains no dialogue. Instead of a story or plot, the film uses themes to present new perspectives and evoke emotion purely through cinema. The film was the first in over twenty years to be photographed in the 70mm Todd-AO format.

Flying high in lavish luxury

The Boeing Business Jet series are variants of Boeing airliners for the corporate jet market, initially the 737 series airliners. This aircraft usually seats between 25 and 50 passengers within a luxurious configuration. This may include a master bedroom, a washroom with showers, a conference/dining area, and a living area. The Boeing Business Jet is a 50/50 partnership between Boeing Commercial Airplanes and General Electric.  The latest versions of the BBJs include configurations based on the Boeing 777, Boeing 787 and the Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental.

Below are interior pictures from a BBJ 737.

Governments and militaries from around the world are the major clients that lease these Boeing Business Jets.  But corporations also are clients.

BBJ is now configuring the new 747-8 Intercontinental Jumbo Jet for these private jaunts.  The people that get to take the ride should be very impressed.

Crazy Redneck decorates pick-up with stuffed critters

Somewhere in the southern U.S some guy decorates his truck with stuffed critters.  I could not pinpoint exactly where this original artist lives.  Probably Louisiana, Mississippi or Alabama, somewhere in the south where artistic taste is still developing.  If you see this guy coming grab the cat and bring it inside.

Shudder to think what this mountain man has in his backwoods cabin.

‘Bigfoot’ Enlisted to Help Sell Home in California

A real estate listing for a home in California has gone viral thanks to a monstrous star featured in the ad: Bigfoot. The clever idea was reportedly the brainchild of realtor Daniel Oster, who decided to include an individual dressed as the famed cryptid in various photos of a home he is selling in the community of Felton. Part of what made his plan rather ingenious is that the Sasquatch images were placed rather deep in the residence’s online gallery, so that prospective homebuyers would get quite the surprise as they browsed through the website showcasing the house.

In the photos, ‘Bigfoot’ can be seen lounging on a couch, baking cookies, and even doing yoga. As Oster likely intended, the unexpected appearance of a Sasquatch in the listing’s photos eventually caught the attention of one would-be homebuyer, who prompted posted them online. The cryptozoological marketing campaign subsequently went viral and undoubtedly led to far more people checking out the house than would have had it been a run-of-the-mill listing.

Asked about the concept by a local TV station, Oster explained that “homebuying is an adventure, and we wanted to surprise folks and make them smile.” It would appear that the unorthodox idea has been a wild success as, according to the realtor, the house has garnered over 400,000 views online since word of the weird ad spread on social media. Oster is not the first realtor to turn to Bigfoot in order to stand out in the marketplace as a similar Sasquatch theme was used in a listing for a home in Ohio last year.

NASA Rocket Testing

The John C. Stennis Space Center (SSC) is a NASA rocket testing facility. It is located in Hancock County, Mississippi (United States), on the banks of the Pearl River at the Mississippi–Louisiana border. As of 2012, it is NASA’s largest rocket engine test facility. There are over 30 local, state, national, international, private, and public companies and agencies using SSC for their rocket testing facilities.

The Rocket Propulsion Test Complex is a rocket testing complex which was built in 1965 as a component of the John C. Stennis Space Center. The Rocket Propulsion Test Complex played an important role in the development of the Saturn V rocket. The A-1, A-2 and B-1/B-2 test stands were declared a National Historic Landmark in 1985. The NASA Engineering & Science Directorate (ESD) at SSC operates and maintains SSC’s rocket test stands.
