Mountain Highway Perils
A very close call!
By a matter of mere seconds, a motorist cruising along a highway in Taiwan missed being crushed by a massive boulder that plummeted to the road in front of them.
The jaw-dropping scene was captured by the car’s dash cam in a piece of footage almost sure to provide viewers with a jolt.
In the remarkable video, the driver’s picturesque journey, punctuated by pop music playing on the radio, is suddenly interrupted when the enormous rock drops from a nearby cliff and hits the road.
The bounding boulder’s impact causes it to crack up into a few pieces and, amazingly, the largest chunk also narrowly misses smashing into the car, making the driver doubly lucky that day.
Fortunately, the vehicle was no worse for wear after the close call, which is rather miraculous when one considers what it would have looked like if the timing were different.

The Flying Saucer Clouds

Lenticular clouds (Altocumulus lenticularis in Latin) are stationary clouds that form in the troposphere, typically in perpendicular alignment to the wind direction. They are often comparable in appearance to a lens or saucer.
Because of their unique appearance, they have been brought forward as an explanation for some unidentified flying object (UFO) sightings.

Town in Iceland Paints 3D Zebra Crosswalk To Slow Down Speeding Cars
In the small fishing town of Ísafjörður, Iceland, an exciting development in road safety has just popped up – almost literally. A new pedestrian crossing has been painted that appears to be 3D by way of a cleverly-detailed optical illusion.

Not only does the innovative design give foot-travelers the feeling of walking on air, it also gets the attention of drivers, who will be sure to slow down their speed once they spot the seemingly floating ‘zebra stripes.’ Icelandic environmental commissioner Ralf Trylla called for its placement in Ísafjörður after seeing a similar project being carried out in New Delhi, India. With the help of street painting company Vegmálun GÍH, his vision became a reality.
Scroll down to see photos of the fascinating installment taken by Ágúst G. Atlason of Gústi Productions, and let us know if you’d like to see one of these crosswalks in your own city.

Russian Curler Caught Doping At Winter Olympics

GANGNEUNG, South Korea — Victoria Moiseeva, in a high-stakes match, found it impossible to push a brewing scandal out of her mind on Monday morning at Gangneung Curling Centre. It was the first time in her life, she said, that she could not fully focus while competing.
“It’s a catastrophe,” she said.
Moiseeva, the skip, or head curler, of the Russian women’s team was referring to the possible effects of a failed doping test by a fellow Russian curler here at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
She and some other Russian athletes fretted that the damage from this single case could be widespread.
“This is simply terrifying to think about,” she said.
The athlete, Alexander Krushelnytsky, is the first from Russia to come under investigation at these Games for using a banned substance, jeopardizing the bronze medal he won last week in the mixed doubles competition with his wife. It also complicates Russia’s effort to rehabilitate its image after a vast state-backed cheating scheme at the 2014 Sochi Games it hosted left it nominally barred as a team from the Games.
The International Olympic Committee had been considering allowing Russia to march under its own flag at the closing ceremony Sunday. But several members now privately suggested that allowing that would risk appearing to appease Russia and could undercut an effort to play up the peacemaking presence of a North Korea delegation at the Games.

On rare occasions, there have been doping violations in curling, since it is, on balance, a taxing feat of endurance to sweep the broom round after round. The sport, however, is not accustomed to being at the center of such a high-profile case, so the news sowed confusion and puzzlement among the curlers here.
Curling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice towards a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles. It is related to bowls, boules and shuffleboard. Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called rocks, across the ice curling sheet towards the house, a circular target marked on the ice. Each team has eight stones, with each player throwing two. The purpose is to accumulate the highest score for a game; points are scored for the stones resting closest to the center of the house at the conclusion of each end, which is completed when both teams have thrown all of their stones. A game usually consists of eight or ten ends.

Not to be confused with another Scottish sport called Hurling.

The Supreme Court of the United States ruled that, “The right to bear arms is not granted by the Constitution; neither is it in any manner dependent upon that instrument for its existence” and limited the scope of the Second Amendment’s protections to the federal government. In United States v. Miller (1939), the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment did not protect weapon types not having a “reasonable relationship to the preservation or efficiency of a well regulated militia”.
Am I missing something? How do these school shooters tie into a well regulated militia?
A Song Like No Other
The Pukatawagan Song causes many different reactions from listeners. From folk song, party music, incomprehensible noise to What The F#@K is this, this song is one of a kind.
I’m A Stranger Here
Listen children to a story
That was written long ago
About a kingdom on a mountain
And the valley folk below
On the mountain was a treasure
Buried deep beneath a stone
And the valley people swore
They’d have it for their very own
Go ahead and hate your neighbour
Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of heaven
Justify it in the end
There won’t be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day
On the bloody morning after
One tin soldier rides away
So the people of the valley
Sent a message up the hill
Asking for the buried treasure
Tons of gold for which they’d kill
Came an answer from the kingdom
“With our brothers we will share
All the secrets of our mountain
All the riches buried there”
Now the valley cried with anger
“Mount your horses, draw your sword”
And they killed the mountain people
So they won their just reward
Now they stood beside the treasure
On the mountain darkend red
Turned the stone and looked beneath it
“Peace on earth” was all it said
Go ahead and hate your neighbour
Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of heaven
You can justify it in the end
There won’t be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day
On the bloody morning after
One tin soldier rides away
Go ahead and hate your neighbour
Go ahead and cheat a friend
Do it in the name of heaven
You can justify it in the end
There won’t be any trumpets blowing
Come the judgement day
On the bloody morning after
One tin soldier rides away
