Commercial Robbery – Arrests: C18-94997

On May 8, 2018, at approximately 8:45 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a robbery at a beer vendor in the 1100 block of St. Mary’s Road.

A young male had entered the vendor while another young male waited outside. The male inside the vendor grabbed a case of beer and fled after being asked for ID.

A manager, who had observed the suspicious behaviour, approached the two males and was threatened at knifepoint by each suspect before they fled with the alcohol. The employee then contacted police and helped direct police resources to the area where the suspects had last been seen.

With the assistance of AIR 1 and the Tactical Support Team, two males were placed under arrest in the first 100 block of Arden Place. Officers recovered the stolen beer, a knife and clothing that had been discarded.

Take a look at the above photo. It’s a sculpture of a Trojan horse. Now look a little closer. What do you see?

The statue is made out of thousands of computer and cell phone components that were once working just fine, but later became infected with various viruses and malware. Nicknamed the “Cyber Horse,” the sculpture was on display this week on the sprawling campus of Tel Aviv University in Israel.

The horse was the brainchild of Gideon Amichay, an Israeli designer and communication artist, who began his career by drawing sardonic cartoons for the New Yorker magazine.

The horse display welcomed greeters at this week’s Cyber Week conference in the coastal city of Tel Aviv. The confab, which ends on Friday, attracted computer experts from around the world.

Humanoid Robot Having A Workout

Boston Dynamics has posted new video of its advanced humanoid robot, Atlas, performing several tasks with uncannily human-like movements. In the footage, Atlas can be seen running outside in a park-like setting, over uneven terrain, and jumping a log obstructing its path. Atlas and another Boston Dynamics project, SpotMini robo-dog, inspire both admiration and fear among some who see the robots as a step closer to the bleak futures envisioned in Black Mirror and The Terminator.

Somewhat creepy.

2001: A Space Odyssey. The Comic Book.

2001

2001: A Space Odyssey is the name of an oversized American comic book adaptation of the 1968 film of the same name as well as a ten–issue monthly series which expanded upon the concepts presented in the Stanley Kubrick film and the novel by Arthur C. Clarke. Jack Kirby wrote and penciled both the adaptation and the series, which were published by Marvel Comics beginning in 1976. The adaptation was part of the agreement of Kirby’s return to Marvel.

Shortly after the publication of the treasury edition, Kirby continued to explore the concepts of 2001 in a monthly comic book series of the same name, the first issue of which was cover dated December 1976. In this issue, Kirby followed the pattern established in the film. Once again the reader encounters a prehistoric man (“Beast-Killer”) who gains new insight upon encountering a monolith as did Moon-Watcher in the film. The scene then shifts, where a descendant of Beast-Killer is part of a space mission to explore yet another monolith. When he finds it, this monolith begins to transform the astronaut into a star child, called in the comic a “New Seed”.

New Level of Insanity Emerges in the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict

Palestinians Now Sending Waves Of Incendiary Kites Across Gaza Border

Clash With Israeli Forces Near The Border Fence

As part of the latest flare-up (literally) in the never-ending Palestinian-Israel conflict, kites carrying incendiary payloads are being sent from the Gaza Strip into Israeli territory, setting off a scourge of highly destructive fires. One blaze in the Be’eri Forest has been particularly devastating. Agricultural lands have also been set on fire by the wind-carried improvised weapons in recent days. Launches of burning kites have coincided with a rash of violent protests near the border fences that separate Gaza from greater Israel. Referred to collectively as the “Great March Of Return,’ these demonstrations have turned deadly, with some reports stating that 7,000 Gazans have been injured and 45 killed as a result of skirmishes with Israeli forces.

The incendiary kites are especially problematic because they are incredibly easy to produce and rely on simple materials that are nearly impossible to embargo and/or interdict. What’s most concerning is that these improvised weapons are near impossible to shoot down, and even if they could be successfully engaged, their burning payloads will still land somewhere in Israeli territory.

Palestinians protest near border with Israel

Incendiary kites adorned with swastikas fly across the Gaza border

Now it seems Israel Defense Forces are going to attempt to deter the launch of these kites in a similar fashion to how they deal with rocket barrages, by destroying the location of their origin. Earlier today, IAF aircraft struck a Hamas position near the border fence where incendiary kites were launched hours earlier. Israel is well equipped to identify and geolocate infrared events in the Gaza Strip as they have dealt with rocket launches from the territory for years. It is likely these same capabilities will now be adapted to finding and fixing targets where the flaming kites originate from.

Far from a new invention or general asymmetric warfare concept, incendiary kites can be as simple as a plastic and balsa wood kite-like device with a tin can filled with burning fuel attached to it via a long cord. Similar devices have been sent across the border sporadically over the years but they have become a much more persistent and organized threat in recent weeks. The fact that Israel is entering into another drought, with very dry conditions becoming a harsh reality, has made the kites a far more effective, albeit indiscriminate source of destruction than in the past.

With no signs of the violence along the border receding and bolstered by the effectiveness of the tactic, the use incendiary kites is only likely to increase. Whether or not punitive air strikes will actually curtail their employment remains to be seen.

Trump tweet

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump 6 hours ago

The Fake News is working overtime. Just reported that, despite the tremendous success we are having with the economy & all things else, 91% of the Network News about me is negative (Fake). Why do we work so hard in working with the media when it is corrupt? Take away credentials?

Any negative news is fake news to the Donald. This guy is like a little baby that wants everything to go his way or he has a fit. Spoiled brat! “Take away their credentials!”
