Provincial health inspectors closed a popular spot for dim sum in Chinatown Monday because of a mouse infestation.

The doors are still closed at Kum Koon Garden Restaurant (257 King St.), one of 20 food-service establishments and hotel pools shuttered since last September because of health code violations.

All cited establishments must address the violations and pass inspection before reopening. The majority of businesses on the list have done just that after closures ranging from a few days to a couple of months.

Among the closures:

• Meiji Sushi and G Martini Bar (454 River Ave.): Oct. 12-19 — Pests, food stored and prepared in dirty conditions and a dishwasher not sanitizing utensils and tableware.

• Ocean King Chinese Restaurant (1800 Main St.): Sept. 9-15 — Failing to comply with food-handling regulations and having inadequate dishwashing facilities.

• Mr. Calzone/Doughboys (1254 Pembina Hwy.): Sept. 19-23 — Poor sanitation, improper food-handling and a failure to stop the entry of pests.

• After Dark (121 Osborne St.): Jan. 5-10 — Poor general sanitation and dishwasher not santizing utensils and tableware.

• New Sing Fei Chinese Food (Winnipeg Beach): Dec. 9-Feb. 1 — Inadequate measures for pest control and unsanitary conditions.

• Fortune Kitchen (Steinbach): Sept 27-28, Nov. 4-7 — Repeat violations of poor general sanitation and improper storage of foods.

Some establishments were fined for violations not serious enough for a closure order.

• Ivory (200 Main St.): Nov. 1, $349.65 — Storing food in rodent-infested vehicle.

• Second Cup (100 Osborne St.): Oct. 27, $299.65 — Failing to ensure the dishwasher was properly sanitizing utensils and tablewear.

• Roberts Farm (RM of Macdonald): $7,500 — Operating a slaughterhouse and meat-processing establishment without a permit.

This Winnipeg restaurant possibly has the rodents under control.
