Australian Wild Pig Drinks 18 Beers, Gets in Fight with Cow
A feral pig ransacked a campsite and drank at least 18 cans cans of beer before getting into an altercation with a cow in Australia.
The incident, which happened in a remote area of Western Australia at the DeGray River rest area, prompted officials to warn campers to keep their food and alcohol secure.
The wild pig was seen around the campsite for several days last week, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) reported, citing officials who said the animal got into multiple six-packs of beer over the course of a few days.
Fionna Findley, from the government highway division Main Roads, told ABC that the people camping overnight at the rest area said that “the pig stole their beers, drank them and then afterwards proceeded to tear apart the bin liners.”
“We just want to remind everyone when you do pull over, make sure [your food and alcohol] is securely stored because there are a lot of animals out there that are keen for a free feed.”
One camper who reportedly spoke with the affected campers told ABC that the pig got into 18 beers, ransacked the campsite’s garbage bins and got into a fight with a cow.
The camper, who was only identified as Merida, said “there was some other people camped right on the river and they saw him running around their vehicle being chased by a cow.
“It was going around and around and then it went into the river and swam across to the middle of the river.”
Findley told ABC that that her crews are not equipped to deal with wild pigs, especially if they are drunk.
The pig was last seen lying beneath a tree, potentially nursing a hangover.

Divers swim with one of biggest great white sharks off Hawaii
A team of divers has had a close encounter with one of the biggest great white sharks on record – and lived to tell the tale.
Some of the divers came so close to the female shark in the waters off Hawaii that they were able to touch it.
The shark, nearly 20ft (6m) long and weighing an estimated 2.5 tonnes, is believed to be one tagged by researchers about 20 years ago called Deep Blue.
It was attracted to the area off Oahu’s south shore by the carcass of a dead sperm whale.
One of the divers, Ocean Ramsey, told the Honolulu Star Advertiser that they had been filming tiger sharks feeding on the whale when the shark arrived.
“We saw a few tigers and then she came up and all the other sharks split, and she started brushing up against the boat,” she said.
“She was just this big beautiful gentle giant wanting to use our boat as a scratching post. We went out at sunrise, and she stayed with us pretty much throughout the day.”
Ms Ramsey said the shark was “shockingly wide” and could be pregnant. Deep Blue is believed to be about 50 years old and has its own Twitter account.
Great whites are rarely seen around Hawaii as they prefer cooler seas.
Ms Ramsey said older, pregnant great white sharks were the safest to swim near but cautioned against swimming anywhere where sharks were feeding.
She said sharks would only attack humans if they were curious or if they mistook people for their normal prey, the Honolulu Star Advertiser reported.

Former LSU OL Matt Branch Lost Leg in Hunting Accident; Friend Says Dog Shot Him
If this wasn’t so tragic it could be considered a moment of levity.
Former LSU Tigers offensive lineman Matt Branch lost his leg following a Dec. 28 hunting accident and remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Micah Heckford, a friend of Branch, told Brian Broom of the Clarion Ledger on Tuesday that a dog jumped onto the truck bed that Branch was sitting on and accidentally stepped on a shotgun’s safety and trigger.
“The gun shot,” Heckford said. “Everybody looked up. The first thing I saw was Matt and within two to three seconds he realized he was hit.”
He explained members of the group quickly transported Branch to a road where they could meet with firefighters, who began treatment on the wound.
“I think that’s when it hit me how serious it was,” Heckford told Broom. “It was at that point in time I realized how much he had bled. His pants were just soaked in blood.”
Along with the left leg amputation, Heckford said Branch has undergone several surgeries requiring the stay in the ICU, but he’s otherwise expected to make a full recovery.
Branch played for the Tigers from 2009 through 2011 after a redshirt year in 2008.
